Not everyone wants to ski all of the time, so why not take a closer look at what else you can do in Peisey Vallandry and the surrounding areas including paragliding, purpose built ice-climbing, climbing natural frozen waterfalls, snowshoeing, dog sledding, horse drawn sleds, swimming, speed flying, bobsleigh and Nordic Skiing. In fact there is so much on offer we are sure you will need to come back next year to fit it all in!


Peisey Vallandry is on the edge of the Vanoise National Park and has some spectacular walks and hikes for all levels of fitness and experience from the gentile family strolls to the full-on ascents and descents of the massive peaks in the area. There are no less than 6 refuges in the area for those who want to plan a longer walk. Mountain Guides are available in both winter and summer or walking maps with routes are in PVR Reception or the Tourist Office.
Advice: Do not hike alone in the mountains; always tell someone your route and expected return time. Bring warm clothes and raincoats, good shoes and gloves. Consult the Meteo France's snow and avalanche report. Do not insist if you have misgivings about the route, the snowpack stability or the weather.


Snow Shoeing (or raquettes in French) is the perfect way to see parts of the mountain you would never normally see on ski's. Hire a guide to take you on some beautiful walks or rent a pair yourself and start exploring. The Vanoise National Park is a great place to go and remember to keep your eyes pealed for Ibex and other wildlife that live in the area.

Nordic Skiing in Paradiski

Peisey Vallandry has one of the largest Nordic Ski areas in the Tarentaise, with 43km of pistes right on edge of the Vanoise National Park with all the lushness of the flora and fauna (chamois, ibex, larch forests, frozen waterfalls) alongside the local heritage (villages, hamlets, ancient mines), there is much to be discovered by all who enter this beautiful area. Lessons and equipment hire are available at the Nordic Centre and all levels and abilities are catered for.

Olympic Bobsleigh in La Plagne

Looking for an adrenalin rush then have a go on the most technical piste in the world, the Olympic Bobsleigh run in La Plagne. Choose between: Taxi Bob, a piloted bob built like the bobsleighs used for competitions with speeds up to 110km/h Bob Raft where you can ride at slower speeds with your family and no pilot; or Mono Bob - no professional pilot, no one else, just you and the ride of your life!

Water Slide in Les Arcs

A good laugh for spectators and a wealth of unforgettable memories for anyone brave enough to throw themselves down the run and across the 15 metre-long pool (50cm deep)…without taking a tumble??

Boarder Cross - Plan Vert in Les Arcs

A series of whoops and banked turns on a totally dedicated route; 2 courses at different levels of difficulty to experience at your own pace! Piste du Plan Vert – Vallée d’Arc 2000.

Natural Runs in Les Arcs

Natural runs made safe and signposted by ski patrollers, but without any grooming to spoil the authentic atmosphere of the area. Designed for very good skiers: Varet, Crêtes, Dou de l’Homme, Lanches, Robert Blanc, Génépi, Bois de l’Ours, les Bosses, les 2 Têtes and Malgovert. Skiing in its natural state!

Piste Milka in Les Arcs

Located in Arc 1800, this little route tells you all about the mountain flora and fauna. A fun way to arrive in Arc 1800, with information panels and animal silhouettes.

Speed test - in Arc 2000

A special area to test your speed, located near the start of the Plagnettes chair lift, where you can test how fast you ski: timing bays with speed displayed at the finishing line (this speed test is one of the initiatives for making people aware of what constitutes dangerous behaviour on the slopes.)

Snowpark in Les Arcs

Whether a total beginner, an experienced skier or boarder, a pro-rider or simply a spectator, head to the Apocalypse Parc in the middle of the ski area between Arc 1600 and Arc 1800.

Avalanche Parc

An area totally dedicated to raising awareness of avalanche research and the dangers of off-piste skiing. Located at the Col de la Chal on a major busy crossing point in the ski area, the park is easy to access and there is no charge.

Ice Climbing

Peisey-Vallandry Nordic Ski area is famous for the opportunities it offers for natural frozen waterfall climbing. The sun does not reach this sector for several months of the year from mid November allowing the formation of these amazing frozen waterfalls. From initiation classes for the general public to the most challenging routes reserved for experienced climbers, there is something for everyone. In addition there is a 22m high artificial ice-climbing tower, the only one of its kind in Europe, located in Champagny, La Plagne. Have an introduction to ice-climbing or advanced tuition on the 26 routes.

Dog Sleds

"Le Trappeur" Peisey Vallandry is in the perfect location to take advantage of the stunning scenery and local wildlife. Take a ride on a 10 dog driven sled, wrapped up nice and warm on the edge of the Vanoise National Park or learn to drive your own team of 3 dogs. If you are lucky you may spot some Ibex and Chamois if you look closely...

Horse Drawn Sleds

Take a horse drawn sleigh and discover the wonders of the mountains from a different perspective. Sit back, relax and enjoy the ride through the Vanoise National Park from the cosy confines of the snug sled covered in blankets, starting in the beautiful old traditional village of Nancroix.


Whether it is winter flying over the snow covered peaks with skiers below or soaring on the summer thermals over the lush green mountains, paragliding is the perfect way to see the area. Peisey Vallandry Rentals work in conjunction with a local school and can arrange tandem flights or courses so you can learn to fly your own wing. All instructors are fully qualified and the school is recognised by the French Free Flight Federation.

Speed Flying

Speed Flying (or Speed Riding) is a relatively new sport, having been around for about 7 years. Although classed as an extreme sport it is actually as extreme as you make it. As long as you are able to ski red runs in all snow conditions confidently you will be able to try speed flying. More than 400 people have already learnt with Speedriding-School, Les Arcs and although they may have French accent all the instructors can teach you in English!

Weekly Guided tour of Peisey Village

...every Monday at 18h with a guide-lecturer, FACIM (Foundation for International Cultural Action in the Mountains), walk the streets of the village of Peisey to explore the architecture of ancient houses of Savoy, to the beautiful baroque church of the Holy Trinity. You will end your visit in a very friendly tasting of local products. Registration required at the Tourist Office.
